Increasing your Twitter followers.

After only recently jumping on the twitter bandwagon, I’ve got to admit, it’s a useful and easy way to promote any updates to my blog or articles I’ve written. Here are a few steps to increase your followers.

Sign up for an account over at Twiends or simply sign in with your twitter account. The interface is really easy to navigate and you’ll be increasing your following in no time. If you find you can’t follow anyone straight away, this could be down to how new your twitter is or how many followers/tweets/lists you have. Increasing these increases your twust score, which is Twiends’ indication of how trustworthy your Twitter feed is. Sound complicated? Read on!

The website basically uses its own kind of currency called seeds, which can be purchased for a hefty sum, or earned by following other people. It’s wise to follow those of the same interests because you’re more likely to have them follow you back, plus your feed won’t be full of random junk. You can earn from one to nine seeds following someone, and offer the same amount for users to follow you. I don’t agree with purchasing the seeds, because essentially you’re just purchasing followers, who unfortunately could all just un-follow you the next day. But the site is helpful for slowly increasing your blog’s growth.

At first I was slightly dubious as to whether this was ethical or even worthwhile, but you can adjust the type of people allowed to follow you. For instance, you can filter out those who have high drop rates (i.e. who follow users and soon un-follow them) or those that have only joined in the last hour or two days. This way you can be sure that legitimate people are following you, while you find interesting people in your own interests to follow. Using this method consistently could potentially increase your following by thousands per day!

Here’s another tip, if you’re following users just to hopefully receive a follow back, make sure you’re choosing the right users. For instance, a user following 1,000 with 1,200 followers is more likely to follow you back than a user following 400 with 20,000 followers. You could also look into some reading material for building followers, like here. They're pretty cheap but I haven't tried it, let me know if you do!

My final tip is not to bother with DMs (Direct Messages). They’re annoying, unhelpful and can put a user off following you instantly.

Although useful methods to increase your twitter following, websites like Twiends are sure to become more popular. This means the current way we use Social Networking to determine the quality of a page could soon be meaningless. I mean, what’s the point if everyone’s got billions of followers just to promote websites? Well anyway, I’d look into this now while it’s popular, good luck!
